Osteo-arthritis in cervical spine, lumbar spine, sacro-iliac joints and hands; arthritis and femoral-acetabular impingement in hips.
At age 22, my left ilio-lumbar ligament was completely torn in a sports injury and have since had various continual back problems. I had spinal instability, degenerated disks and a bulging L4-L5 disk in my early 40s. My life has been a combination of intensive computer work and an extremely high level of physical activity. I've always ignored pain and plowed through to accomplish whatever I felt I needed/wanted to. My DISH is probably at least partially the result of physical wear and tear.
In the summer, I mow my large sloping lawn with a non-self propelled mower (takes about 3 hours); some biking, and construction and maintenance tasks for 3 properties that I have an interest in. In winter, I try to do a lot of cross-country skiing. I also go down to the Physicians Neck and Back clinic a couple of times a week to do weight lifting and stretching for my neck and back.
About 5 years before my DISH diagnosis my water softener gave out and I replaced it with a Scale Blaster (http://www.scaleblaster.com/), which changes the shape, size and charge of the calcium molecules. After my diagnosis I started wondering about whether it could be a contributing factor so I repaired the water softener and disconnected the Scale Blaster.

Selected Individual's Life after DISH

On a positive note, there is life after DISH. Are there some things that the subject was able to do in the past year.
